Google Hangout - device not compatible

So I have a old HTC Desire and I want Google Hangout on it. But of course it is not compatible. I have rooted my phone so my question now is, if I get a custom ROM could I then get Hangout??? Does it depend on the ROM?

You need to have the Android v2.3 (Gingerbread) or higher for Google+ Hangouts to work on your phone. The last official update for the Desire was to Android v2.2 (Froyo) I believe so yes you'll need to root and install a custom ROM for it to work. DURX has a rooting guide in the HTC Desire - All things root forum and there are some good tips for a stable v2.3 ROM in there as well. Welcome to the forums Augusta.

Ok, great. I suspected as much. I've already rooted my phone and have now been reading up on custom ROM. I just wanted to check if it would make it possible to use f.ex. Google Hangout. I was thinking of getting ROM Manager, seems like it's the easiest for a noob like myself. Any insights?

Not from me Augusta. I only use official ROMs from my carrier but the more I read and learn about what you can do once your rooted I'm becoming very tempted to try a custom ROM myself. Maybe if I can swing a new S4 out of t-mobile I'll play around with my old S2 that way.
