Google hangout vs standard sms

Haven't tried hangouts yet was wanting some feedback on how it works and compared to standard sms please..

I have LG G3 at&t

Hangouts is okay. I found it pretty good at first, but the last couple updates made it slow and laggy with little bugs popping up hear and their so I stopped using it.
I just started using Google new Messaging app Google Messenger and so far I really like it, but it's only been 24 hours.

I hope they work out some bugs in Hangouts and port over the design from the new Messenger app. I like the ability to fluidly switch between SMS and Hangouts with friends and keep it in the same conversation. One bug I've seen lately is when you open a new conversation, it will kick you back out to the contacts screen.

I personally prefer having a stand alone sms app, because it is too hard to tell the difference in hangouts between SMS and GTalk. Functionally though, Hangouts works fine. But I like Textra better for SMS stuff.

The bubble is green if it is a hangout message and the Bible is white if it is an sms/mms message.... That didn't seem Co fusing to me.

Unless they changed it since I quit using it. lol

Personally, I love Google hangouts, especially their new released Google messenger app. G hangouts bring conversations to life with photos, emoji, and even group video calls for FREE. I have installed Google messenger app for SMS and it's really great.

How do you like hangouts as an sms app? I think the OP knows what hangouts is capable of, but he is asking g from the sms side compared to the stock messaging app.

does the other person have to have hangouts for it to work? will i still get notificaation on my lockscreen? i havent downloaded it yet wondering how 5.0 will effect it and if yes should i just wait ?

For sms/mms it works as a normal texting app. Not sure how Lollipop will affect it, and it still should work on your lockscreen.

I use hangouts and actually like a lot! I have just recently downloaded google SMS! I love it! You can change the theme on it and the keyboard is nice! They don't have to have the same app as me for me to use it either! You can use another SMS app and or hangouts or just use hangouts! I use hangouts mainly for video chatting my friends with google+!

i like the idea of having one app icon on my screen for sms/mms/voice calling another reason why i am looking to change it up. i use swiftkey for my keyboard and have been using it for the last two years and love it.... do i have to doing anything for my contacts? i personal don't know anyone who uses it so thats why i am asking all the fine detail questions before i jump into it..... thanks for the info so far, please continue>>>>>

not getting lock screen notifications? i get the icon on the top status bar but no box or window showing any messages?

after a few days of using the new Messenger for SMS, I'm uninstalling it for good and going back to Hangouts. I was typing a text and the app went haywire and deleted ALL of my texts and then refused to send any. Unacceptable.
