Google Indoor Maps Question

Don't usually feel this dumb, but I'm not sure I get the whole indoor map thing. Are the floorplans something you download or do they just initiate when you walk in one of the buildings thats on the list? Going to be in Fort Lauderdale airport soon and I see it has a Google Indoor Maps floorplan.

I think it is supposed to show up just like any other map would in Google Maps. You should be able to download it too.
 
Thanks for the reply. I only posted after an hour of frustrating searches for the answer to downloading one. Of course, immediately after hitting send, I worry I missed something painfully obvious.

Well, the truth of it is that none of us really know yet. I know how it supposed to work, but haven't been to one of the places listed yet to actually test it.
 
Turn on wifi and it will be more accurate indoors. Google has a limited number of indoor maps last time I looked so check out Point Inside app too.
