Google is a major investor in patent troll firm Intellectual Ventures

The hypocrisy is unbelievable:

Google is a major investor in patent troll firm Intellectual Ventures.

It looks like Google's a part of the very problem they're complaining about.

Intellectual Ventures - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Myhrvold's Intellectual Ventures forced to reveal investors

Amazon, Apple, Cisco, eBay, Microsoft, etc. are also investors but they are not acting like whiny babies and acting all high and mighty going around preaching about how patents are destroying innovation.

Fact 1:

-------

Google was willing to pay for $3-$4 billion for the same Nortel patents.

Fact 2:

-------

Google's page rank algorithm is patented. if you don't believe in patents then why the hell do you own patents?

Fact 3:

-------

Let me quote another commenter on another blog: "How many small and innovative companies has Google killed off by replicating what they do and making it available for free? Great way to keep the next Google from springing up."

Message to Google:

------------------

You can use other people's technology, you just have to pay for them. You are being sued left and right not because there's some organized propaganda against you, it's because you STOLE from other companies.

It appears someone decided to create a new account yesterday and just created several threads with links to anti-Android articles.

That's all I have to say.

I like how you copy/pasted directly from your previous post I'm not trying to call you out but wondering why you are posting this, do you really feel this strongly about the subject? Do you have insider knowledge of what good would have done had they won the patents? Why should google not patent something, they are not saying patents in themselves are wrong they are saying the way other companies are attempting to profit off patents are wrong? If google sees something that they can do cheaper, legally and profit from it why should they not snuff out the competition? There were and still are other search engines out there, google is just able to do it better and could rise to the top. If the small innovative companies were able to make a superior product they would be able to rise above. I think you are trying to look at the corporate world with morals and tactics that do not work in the corporate world.

Sweet. Next you should tell China about how you think their sweatshops and child labor practices are unfair.

If this information is true, it is disturbing that Google would invest in a patent troll company. I don't blame Google for holding patents or wanting to buy patents to protect itself from patent trolling. That's a sad cost of doing business. Google investing in a company that makes it's money solely by extorting it from other businesses is extremely disturbing if that is indeed what is happening here. It seems to me to be unclear as to whether Google is actually backing this company or simply giving them money to keep them from suing the pants off them.

Where does anyone get "major" investor from?

That characterization is disingenuous since no monetary values are given. IV runs a protection racket. "Invest with us or you will get sued." And it was started by a former MS executive. I consider the investors to be prey more than predators in this financial relationship.

This is a real problem. The modern version of the mafia protection racket.

Part of the problem is the patent system which is giving out patents like candy and allows the patents to be so vague as to cover just about anything.

So now what we have are people with deep pockets setting up patent troll companies with the sole purpose of extracting cash from the real innovators. Before you know everything that can be patented will be owned my mega corporations

This guy has done nothing but post flame bait threads. Just ignore him and he will go away.

Members characterizing the OP like that are not addressing his posted issue, but are addressing what they think of him, which is not doing much for the thread. ;)

Can we just talk about what has been brought up in post #1? It looks interesting.
