Google is downgrading the Nexus 6 from Android 7.1.1 to Android 7.0 to fix Android Pay issues

Nexus 6 users are reporting that their phones are being downgraded from Android 7.1.1 to Android 7.0 in an effort to bring back support for Android Pay. Google's payment service was inadvertently broken when the company rolled out Android 7.1.1 to the device.

Um, the Android Pay SafetyNet issues were already resolved (server-side) prior to this downgrade OTA. Nowhere in the Reddit thread or Android Police article is it mentioned that the two are related.

This push for this downgrade instead seems to target users who had sideloaded 7.1.1 rather than receiving it OTA as intended. Updates are pushed through the carrier, so if a user is on a different build from what their carrier is pushing they won't be able to receive OTA updates. This seems like it should get them back on track.

Are there going to be more updates? I was under the impression the 7.1.1 was the end.

Probably not any more OS version updates, but it should continue to get security patches for a while longer.
