google maps issues with point location

Hello and thanks for help in advance.

Up until this week I have been able to touch and hold on any location in google maps using the app. This exact location would then have a pop up which allowed me to navigate to or street view etc.
Now this has stopped working and when I touch and hold the location pointer jumps to the closest point of interest or tagged location.

What have I done and how can I change it back.

cheers

Have you updated to the latest version yet? I have Google Maps 8.4.1, and I can still long press on a location and get the popup.

yes the cache has been cleared.

Looking at the feedback from the new versions it would appear that the little streetview man is greyed out and it performs much like mine is now doing.

This is the most annoying thing on earth.

I don't know what feedback you're looking at, but version 8.4.1 doesn't have a 'little street view man'. Longpressing a point on the map produces a dropped pin with an expandable pop-up which gives the following options :-

navigate to
save
share
streetview
save for off-line use

All these options are working fine for me.

Have you tried 'Force stop' as well clearing cache?, very occasionally I find maps locks up and a force stop followed by a restart kicks it into life.

I don't have any regrets about updating to version 7 and the succeeding version 8 and don't understand all the negativity that followed the introduction of the updates.

:)
