Help google maps keeps opening with the same city in search box

every time i open google maps on my S3 it defaults to Syracuse in the two search box at the top of the page. Now, syracuse is a lovely city and i did visit there last month but i'm in chicago now. i've cleared all setting on maps. l cleared data and cache under the map setting in Applications. I went on my google dashboard and the only saved places are my work and home - neither of which are in Syracuse. i even uninstalled maps updates and reinstalled and still Syracuse shows up when i launch the app! if i hit the little bullseye thing it does relocate me correctly (i have gps and location services on all the time) any ideas?? i would think it'd default to wherever i was.
