Google Maps makes screen turn off?

Hello

Riding around in my car, I leave my GPS unit on even though I dont put a route. I tried doing this with Google Maps and my Android phone but after a while the screen turns off. How can I prevent it from doing this?

In Google Navigation, it doesnt do this but I have to set a route, which is pointless if you are just cruising around.

4.2.2 Android version, 7.2.0 (#702001412) Google Maps.

Thanks

Maps isn't forcing the screen to turn off - it's just the standard system timeout because you've not touched anything (which Navigation disables).

What you could do is use an automation app to add the functionality. I have a Tasker profile that disables the screen timeout when Maps is running, and re-enables it (at my preferred default) when I leave the app. I expect that other automation apps (such as Llama) may be able to do the same.

OK so

1: How do you do it with Tasker?
2: Why recommend/mention Llama if you do it already with Tasker?

Thank you

I mention Llama to give options, because it's the other popular automation app, and because some people like free options.

As for how, I set a profile whose context is that Maps is running (you can add a list of apps). When that condition is met, the task sets the screen timeout to the max possible (1 day). Then I add an exit task to reset the timeout to 1 minute (my default) when I leave Maps.
