Google Maps missing tiles + cache advice

At specific resolutions I am finding the odd tile that will not show up on Google Maps on my HTC Desire. Quite often I can switch over to satellite view and the tile will populate with the appropriate satellite image, but if I turn off satellite the tile will not populate in standard map view.

If I zoom in or out 9 times out of 10 the tile will populate for that specific zoom resolution, but not when I return to the resolution where it is missing.

Anyone else had this issue or found a solution?

On a different note can anyone give me an idea of how much buffering Google maps will take before it reaches the limit of the cache setting?

Added to this is it possible to increase the cache setting?

Shortly I'm off to 3 Asian countries on business and thought I might cache some of the locations I'll be visiting. However I don't want to spend some time doing this only to discover the locations cached at the beginning have been overwritten by those at the end.

Any advice?

I wouldn't count on Google Maps's caching for this sort of thing. Yes, it can work. However, there are nav apps that actually store maps locally (and don't require precaching/predownloading/etc) and they're the correct tool for the job.

Maybe there are better tools for the job, but I like the fact that I can get a map in an instant of far flung places. For example in a few days I'll be out in the back end of beyond in Cambodia, not an easy place to get maps for.

Buta anyway, is anyone else missing tiles on Google maps?

Almost exactly the same problem here... wont load a specific zoom level of an important place for me, i'm quite pissed with it. Tried re installing and clearing the cache several times but no.... it wont just load that specific area in map view. Please help.

Motorolla Xoom wifi.

Actualy, it also happens on another map application that does exactly what you said....store maps locally. RMaps store the map in the SD card but at certain zoom levels, it's also missing some tiles.
