Help Google maps / navigation massive lag issues (Galaxy s5)

andoc2012

Newbie
Hi there,

Super frustrating issue.

The Google Maps / Navigation app on my Galaxy s5 does not work correctly. When I turn location settings on and try to get directions there is a huge lag sometimes up to 30 seconds on my GPS position. My location consistently bounces off the exact route I'm driving on and ends up a block or 2 over for a while before returning whilst in maps view. When I switch to navigation mode, the voice direction commands don`t appear to work at all and my position will freeze and lag all over the place with the arrow not following the route or even pointing in the right direction.

I've tried:

- Checking all location service settings including WIFI & Data being on.
- Clearing cache and disabling / enabling app and re-updating
- Removing the case

PLEASE HELP!!!???

Is it just the Maps app cache you've cleared?

If so I would try wiping the cache partition :-

It has cleared a variety of similar glitches/problems on my HTC devices.

Why are you turning "Locations OFF" in the first place?
I never do, and it has ZERO effect on battery life as the GPS receiver is in Standby Mode until an app calls it asking for a location.

You can set the GPS to auto update location at specified intervals, I just leave it at the default value.

But, when I know I am going to do Navigation work, I always bring up GPS Tools and Status because it polls the NASA servers and downloads the current ephemeris so that the phone can get an immediate lock on your current location accurate to within 10 meters or less if enough sats are in view.

* GPS Status & Toolbox - Android Apps on Google Play

Once that lock is there, then I bring up Google Voice and say "Take me to Pizza Hut" and it gives me instant directions to the closest Pizza Hut..... or I just say "Take me Home" and it immediately starts giving directions to find the shortest route to my home.... ( you must have a Google Account, and you must have "Home" preset as your destination.

works for me every time.

Cheers for the response. There seems to be some argument regarding battery drain with location on all the time:

I just went through my location settings and couldn't find what you are talking about regarding setting the GPS to auto update location at specific intervals? Where is that exactly?

After reading a lot of forums it seems there is a genuine "Searching for GPS" issue on a lot of smart phones out there that doesn't seem to have a solution. That seems to be my phone's problem as it's happening in all my GPS apps. Downloaded GPS Test and GPS Status & Toolbox and neither can lock onto my location.

Leaving location on for now as you've suggested but still doesn't seem to be helping.

Tommo47 havent' tried deleting the cache yet but will try so now and report back...

Not to mention, before this issue suddenly started I used to constantly turn location off for when I didn't need it as I did find it drained battery and never had a problem pinpointing in on my location once I started it up. This problem appears to be across multiple apps which leads me to believe it's the GPS itself and not google maps?
