Help Google Maps not updating route

Scott216

Newbie
I have Google maps running on my Nexus 7 (original version, not latest). Frequently while I'm driving Google maps will not update the map, so it gets blurry or even disappears. It will also not reroute. I do have a network connection, I tested by going to a web page. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's pretty frequent.

Hi Scott. I moved this to the N7 forum where other device owners could lend a hand.

I'm not sure what's going on with that. You may try clearing data and cache for google maps. Settings | Apps | All | Maps and you should see the options there.

...another thought whilst I was tending to some other business. When your maps go awry, is your signal strength indicator blue or white. White would indicate that your N7 is unable to talk to Google's servers (i.e. get map updates) and may be unrelated to general connectivity.

I'm on WiFi connected to my Verizon MiFi. I seem to have a good connection and the problem can last for a long time while driving, so even if the signal is poor at times, that's not the case the whole time.

Can Google maps pre-load maps along a route?

Can Google maps pre-load maps along a route?

yes, you can set up a route and then cache it for offline navigation. I haven't tried it, so I'm not sure on the particulars. It may be a solution for when you go through poor service areas.:dontknow:

There was only 12kB in the cache, so I doubt that was it, but I clicked the button to clear it.

I figured out how to save maps for offline use, but it's not quite what I had in mind. They way google maps works is when viewing a map, in the search bar enter "ok maps" and it will download that map. But I really wanted a way for it to download all the maps on my router, not just a current view.

I too tried to use Google for GPS in my car. It was a bad experience for me, so I went with NavFree. You can download an entire state or country at once, so the hassle you are experiencing doesn't exist. You don't need to have an internet connection for it to work.

Use the USA version if you live in this country.

I personally use an app called CoPilot Live since it stores its map data locally. It's not free though, I think it costs around $10.
