google maps problems

I've got a samsung mesmerize. 2.3 gingerbread updated. I used Google Napa for the first time today. I am on a hunting trip in northern maine. today we traveled over 100 miles on dirt roads scouting the area and this app was great to see just where we were. I am having problems with it though. periodically the touch screen and menu/home/back/search buttons stop working. I haveto hit the power button to lock the phone. then again and u.lock it and it works again. the longest I could use Google maps without it locking up was about 10 minutes, usually less. the only time it happened is with that app open. I found one other person with similar symptoms by doing a search but there was no results... Is there a fix for this?

also on my blackberry maps I could mark waypoints, track trips and see my current longitude/latitude. I had all of my hunting spots and trails marked in, and could see their long/lat so I could find them on other maps. is there any way to do this on Google maps, or another app that does? it would be great especially on this trip.
thanks :)

I think, Maverick could be the right nav app for you :)
It'll do what you want.

For your trips you can preload free maps for the area of your trip on your SD card. So you won't need any data connection while the trip. And data connection could be different in back country and may be the reason for your issue.

There is lot of nav apps like Maverick and some may suits better your country with its maps.
Have a look at Market's 'Travel & Local'.

But I like Maverick because of its easy user interface, I don't need to read its manual again before I go for a hiking trip ;)
