Google Maps Question

I have friends on my google maps list and i noticed the times since their locations last updates varies without changing location. Does google maps update the times ie 15 minutes then 0 minutes since last update when a person text messages someone?

Seriously, bumping your thread after 9 hours? That is nothing on a forum website. We aren't your personal tech support just sitting here waiting to answer your questions.

That said, I found the answer to your question in less than a minute by searching on Google. (I don't use Latitude - which is the correct name of the location sharing app integrated with Maps. It uses a lot of battery and I have privacy concerns.)

The background location update frequency isn't a fixed amount of time. The update frequency is determined by several factors, such as how much battery life your phone has, if you are moving, or how fast you are moving. Background updating will only use cell ID or WiFi location detection depending on your device. GPS will not be used in the background to preserve battery life.
