Google Maps update

I've been reading articles about a recent major update to Google Maps, but so far nothing appears to have changed on my phone (or tablet, for that matter) and the Play Store tells me Iv'e got the latest.

Anyone know what gives with this? Does anyone have the new version?
 
Is anyone having trouble opening the new Maps app? Whenever I try, it gives me a blank white screen, then a blank black screen, then crashes, with the message "Unfortunately, Maps has stopped." Any advice on how to fix this? It was working fine with the new update until just a few days ago. Thanks so much!
