How come there is no voice output on Google maps, turn by turn like a regular gps normally has? Is it just me or just the way they did it?

Any "upgrades" (free) for Google Maps default app?

Turn by turn and voice output is native to Android 2.0, Eris runs 1.5.

Feel free to read one of the many thread speculating on when the Eris will be upgraded to 2.0 or above.

There are a few GPS apps although none (to my knowledge) are free.

Waze and Nav4All both offer navigation with voice turn by turn directions for free. They can be downloaded from the market. Waze also has live user updates with traffic.

Nav4All is apparently no longer available. I dowlloaded it a long time ago and didnt like it, so I deleted it. I got an email from them last week saying the app was no longer available.

I received that too, but I think it was for a specific location (Albania?) and not for the whole app. I just looked and it is still in the market. Waze is much better, IMO though.

I guess I should read more carefully ... but I didnt really care that much since I dont use it anymore
