Also posted this in the Iconia a500 forum if that's OK. You know how quick these invitations can dry up. Hopefully the wait won't be too long.

"We're sorry. Music Beta is currently only available in the United States"

This is why storing and streaming ones content from the cloud can be such a complete fail.

Fortunately I've got http://www.google.cn/music/homepage Here I can actually download all my music and keep it locally, so it's always available.

I'm confused. Isn't downloading your music and storing it locally something we've been doing for years and years?

Yup.

This is why storing and streaming ones content from the cloud can be such a complete fail.

...and this is why broad, sweeping generalizations are fail. If something's not available in your country it's not available. Claiming that it means anything about cloud-based solutions in general is neither here nor there.

availability based on country most likely was a restraint put in place by the evil RIAA. The actual service that Google wanted to put out had the ca-bosh put on it by the RIAA's restrictions--what we are getting is a compromise.

Yes it is, for most of my life.

However I keep on reading stuff like this. Why cloud storage is the future of music - CNN.com
"Why cloud storage is the future of music" and making out how great cloud based music storage is.

Then I look at my own situation where I travel once or twice a year between the UK and China. I could indeed store my music in the cloud, but then I find my music is NOT available because of my location, due to RIAA, BMI or whatever restrictions. This is why for me cloud music storage is fail.
