Google Music question

cloudsup

Newbie
I want to start using my phone as my primary music player. Eventually I'm going to get a 32gb micro sd and put all my music on that, but until I can afford that I've been using Google Music and I downloaded some of the music to my phone.
Once I get my sd card I want to do away with Google Music. When I delete the app, will it also delete the downloaded music? Or will I have to go in and delete the music on my own? I looked on some other threads and they said it is all sotred on the sd card, but I went and checked and it isn't. So I'm a bit concerned about being able to find the music to delete if it doesn't just delete when I get rid of the app.

Thanks.

Yeah, the music is not stored on your SD card. It's actually tucked away quite nicely on the internal storage at data/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music which requires root access to get to.

I'm not sure if it will automatically get rid of cached songs on uninstall, but it will get rid of them if you go to Settings>>Apps>>Google Play Music and hit Clear Cache (and possibly Clear Data as well).

I bought a whole album from Google Play Music and saved the MP3 files to my phone. (For offline use.) With in the file manager on my phone, I moved the music files to my music folder on my SD card. Then I added song and alblum info. to the tag in PowerAMP Pro, which is the music player app I use. (I'm not rooted either.) As beallpatrick said, its not easy to find the music. You have to go thru some subfolders to find the music file. Also, the files are not labled with the song/album info.

Maybe this is phone-specific, but I believe music IS stored on the SD card and not the music app. Reason I say this is that I have over 2000 songs downloaded and no way my internal storage is large enough for that. I have taken out my SD card and downloaded my music to my PC. I belive music players are just vehicles to sort, edit, add/delete, listen to music. Therefore, you can delete a music app, which I have done with a few, and it will not effect your music files.

Google Play Music definitely stores the files on my phone memory and not the internal storage. Granted, I have a One X (No SD slot) but it's stored on the ~12 GB phone storage instead of the ~2 GB internal storage (where apps get sent by default)

I think it depends how you have your phone storage set up. If you have , within your settings, to save everything to SD card. The music will be stored on the SD card, when you download it for offline use. If you select to save everything to internal storage, it will save all the music in internal storage.

Only if you select to download to device for offline use. It is, by default I believe, set to store in the cloud. Meaning you can't access your music if not on wifi or have a data connection.

Ok, so I went to Google Play and selected the menu, it has the options for "Choose on-device music" and "On device only". What does that exactly mean?

Choose on device means it will download selected songs to your sd card for off-line listening. On line only will just show what's on your sd card.
