google nav voice

is there a way to change this voice up? maybe a different language, even?

google nav is good at directions and everything else, but that lady's voice is rather annoying on longer drives where there's a lot of turns, and could stand to be a bit more pleasant.

I doubt you can change the voice, it's not Garmin. I have not played with the settings to see, I am sure you have otherwise you probably wouldn't have posted a question about it. It would be nice to change the voice.

Settings --> Text-to-speech.

Check 'Always use my settings', then select a different language (the British English voice isn't bad). Also, you can set the speed at which the directions are read from here.

Nice, thanks. I was just too lazy to start the app and look.

ah-ha! didn't know text-to-speech was universal, thought it was for basic phone stuff, not for apps...
though i suppose it makes sense, since that IS a google app on a google phone...

edit: now, can we add more voices somehow?

I'm wondering the same..
Good information guys!

Yea that sounds about right. The voice is actually called a 'bitching betty'

In aviation studies have been done that pilots are more likely to pay attention and respond to a female voice rather than a masculin one.

In navigation and warning systems.

It goes back to wanting to shut it up. Or being attracted to it so we listen when the plane says "pull up" or goes woop woop "terrain" or "altitude" or "waypoint"

The voice on my garmin, phone, and that game are all very similar.

"Michele" had a pleasant voice on VZ Navigator but glad I don't have to pay for that anymore. If you have a rooted phone, jcase has a voice that talks dirty to you. :D

Kidding...

I loved being able to change the voices on my Tom Tom. There was an Ozzy one, but of course, you couldn't understand it. Had Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) for a while. Just had to obey him.

I was very fond of Mr T's, "You missed the turn FOO'!" I missed turns on purpose sometimes just to hear it. :D

i want the option to select the chekov from the new star trek ("yo mayo, you miss turn!"), stalin, and a stock russian-speaking female

Used to have GLaDOS voice on TomTom, that was the best! Wish you could have that on the Google Navigation

Actually, my TomTom has a Yoda voice, thanks to my wife.

My dad bought a GPS unit a couple of years ago. (Please don't ask me the make. I don't remember.) He placed it on the dash as soon as he got back out to the parking lot and typed in the first intended destination. It told him to go north, but he headed west instead, thinking he knew a better and faster route. I had to laugh as the unit kept saying "recalculating" in a feminine voice, sounding more and more aggravated each time it had to say "recalculating".

He still uses the same unit, and he still doesn't listen to it.
