You can long-press any point on the map to drop a pin on it; you will then have the option to navigate to the point.

When navigating, you can tap the Menu button and then Alternate Routes. It's not as flexible as on the PC, but possible alternates will appear in gray. Tap one to select it. There's no way (that I know of) to force the route to travel down your highway of choice other than stubbornly driving that highway until Google decides to catch up.

I don't know of a way to access your saved routes other than just reviewing the recent searches.

One possible option would be to set up the route as you like it on the PC and then email/text the URL to your device. Not ideal, I know, but I'm afraid it's the best I can come up with. As great as Google Maps is, it does lack a lot of the planning features that came standard on most standalone navigation devices.

You can't add a via point. You would have to navigate to the via point, then tell Maps to navigate to your final destination. FYI, Waze lets you add a via point.

Thank you folks,
I believe Waze needs constant data, right? I do not have data with my service. I usually connect, download the route, navigate once and then turn the data off. Will Waze work in this fashion? I may not get regular updates about traffic but otherwise?
