Google Navigation and Bluetooth...

I'm have a Droid Incredible 2 (so stuck on 2.3.4) and now have a car with bluetooth built in (i.e. the car as a mic and the radio turns off so I hear people over the speakers). I love that it automatically syncs with my phone, but have found one huge problem.

If I want to use my phone as a GPS (Google Navigation), the phone wants to use the Bloothtooth connection to talk. The end result is one of two things:

1) If I am not on a phone call (so Bluetooth is connected, but I'm not using it) there is no turn-by-turn direction - the radio plays like normal.

2) If I am on a phone call, the turn-by-turn voice talks over the person I'm talking to

It's really the worst of all possible choices -- either no voice direction or impossible to have a conversation.

Is there a way to force Google Navigation to never ever ever use Bluetooth? I always want it to talk to me via the phone's speaker.

Thanks!

I have the HTC DNA (droid phone) and I use a bluetooth earpiece to connect with my phone. Now as far as what you are describing, I'm not sure if you would ever be able to have this setup where you would have your phone not use bluetooth, however, still allow you to use your car's speakers when using either Google Navigation or a phone call. The reason being is that, bluetooth is the setup that allows this connection between your car and phone. Your speakers are just replacing your bluetooth earpiece in this scenario. As far as having the option of either using google navigation or receiving phone calls and not both at the same time, I think this isn't possible only because if you are using google navigation, that would mean that you wouldn't be able to receive phone calls while this option is in use. I can tell you that when I'm using my bluetooth earpiece and I receive a phone call, I'm getting the same results as you are where the google navigation voice is talking as I am, however, I believe that the person on the other end of the phone doesn't hear the google nav voice, only you. Hope this helps.

psionandy is right -- Waze has the feature I want. Hopefully Google doesn't shutter Waze.

I can be on the bluetooth talking, and my phone will keep giving GPS directions from it's speaker, not the bluetooth connection.

There are two things you could try to get Google Maps to do what you want. First, check in your Bluetooth settings to see which Bluetooth profiles are used to connect your phone to the car. I believe there will be more than one (I had more than one when I briefly tried a Bluetooth speakerphone). Without knowing the specific profiles that you're using, I would suggest deleting the connection using the one that looks "media" related, as opposed to a "hands free" profile. This may prevent Google Maps from coming through your car speakers at all. Second, would be to try lower the media volume to zero and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then you could use something like Tasker or Locale to lower the media volume when you're on a call.

Your Bluetooth connection should have 2 profiles-- phone and media. Phone is used for phone calls. Media is used for music, GPS, etc. It's possible to turn off media so that the GPS would come out of the phone's speaker, but then so would the music.

Google Navigation also has a mute feature which would let you turn off all voice directions.

Did you try to search for "android app bluetooth audio navigation"? There are apps that will help you route the audio in various ways.
