Google navigation UK, how much longer.

I'm with markie-m8. I feel robbed by Google. Considering I've recently been stung for VAT, with the extra charger and the shipping costs I paid a significant amount more for my N1 than the Americans do. Yet for my extra outlay I get a phone with no Google Navigation and no Google Voice. Add to that that for me one of the major selling points of the N1 was that it worked with wireless N - which it currently doesn't I'm slightly disgruntled.

It's a great phone and I'm really pleased with it, it's just frustrating as it could/should be even better.

I have Google Voice on mine. However I think it is racist to Yorkshire people and refuses to understand half of what I say!!!

Oh and as for the price, when in Blighty do we ever get anything cheaper than the Yanks? This is rip off Britain remember, even when its ordered off these shores but tbh, you didn't need to order the uk charger - a 50p shaving adapter would have sufficed with whats in the box and did you honestly expect the same delivery cost as some one on the US? Personally I thought the

I think you're confusing Google Voice with the built in speech to text stuff?

No I'm not, Mine has voice control via Voice dialler which will also open apps as well as dial contacts. It was on the home page when I got the phone but its just as racist as the text to speech to proper yorkshire folk tho obviously not those posh Harrogate incomers ha ha

Its all Google voice isn't it, be it speech to text or Voice Control, AFAIK it needs some kind of data connection to work so I'm assuming its google doing the calculating.

"Google Voice" is a product you sign up for and is specifically about voice mails. It's not available in the UK.

Speech to text is a different thing altogether. It requires a data connection, but it's not "Google Voice" which is the name of a product.

"Google Voice" may use speech to text, just like your handset, but there's much more to it.

Re navigation, maps etc...

yeah but googles are free,

Just measured the data used on a 8-mile journey with the road map plus satellite picture layer - 12Mb...

Guess we are mostly on some sort of "unlimited internet" deal which is capped at some 1Gb - if my numbers are typical that would mean using Google's twat nav for 682 miles in a month and you've used the 1Gb allowance.. Could make my regular trip to the Highlands of Scotland (520 miles) expensive, albeit they'll be no much data coverage North of Glasgow..

I'll try it with no additional layers & see what usage I get..

Cheers!

Lodger

It's to do with the mapping data, Google use Tele atlas (read: Tom Tom) data for Europe, and they don't want Google giving it away to everyone for free. They have their own mapping data for the US, so it's not a problem
