Help Google Nexus 7 (2013) Charging problems

Hi. Okay so, my nexus 7 has not been charging correctly recently. I've managed to make it charge by wrapping the cord around the device. But last night, it did not work. According to a guy at my church, some of the charging things (I forgot the name) are probably loose. Also, its still under warranty. So my question is: Do I send it in to be fixed, or do I request a replacement? Or do I see if I can get my money back and try to get the nexus 9?

Depends on what u need it for. If you need the extra screen space and 64 bit processing (and you can afford it) go for the nexus 9. But they are like $450. But if your happy with your n7 then just have it repaired.

I just called Asus on this same issue, and they said that charging ports are not covered by warranty and that it will be $230 to repair. No more Asus products for me ever.

You must be in the USA. Here in Europe, Asus would not be able to use that excuse for fobbing off customers. The hardware has to be fit for purpose. A simple failure like that would not pass that test.

When my Nexus 7 2012 started playing up on the charging front, I ended up replacing the micro-USB connector. Micro-USB is a poorly engineered connector and the Nexus design was flimsy beyond belief, a few bits of bent metal foil. The repair was inexpensive and straightforward, less than $20 and about 15 minutes. There are instructions out there in Googleland and the bits you need are widely available.

With luck there is the same facility for the 2013 Nexus 7.

Another option would be to investigate alternative charging devices, such as wireless and cradles.

That is ridiculous. For 230 dollars you could buy a whole new one. How can they tell you that the USB port isn't covered by the warranty? If you are able to sift through all the legal jargon that is the warranty info, you may find that they were BullS###ting you just so they wouldn't have to pay for the repair. Big corporations will sometimes try to feed you a line of crap because a lot of people will just take it without a fight.

All of that aside, have you examined the USB port closely? I had a friend who's phone wasn't charging properly and it turned out that a splinter of wood had worked its way into the USB port and a few minutes of very careful picking with a small sewing needle fixed the problem.
