Root Google Now Card Issues

I'm not real big on Google but I like the Google Now cards widget. Problem is that when going ROM to ROM, I sometimes have the widget and other times I don't. At this second, Im using Tesla but don't have the widget. I can't figure it out. I believe the widget to be part of Google Now Launcher or the Google app but I have both installed and no widget. I know this sounds ridiculous and I haven't wanted to ask but it's been an issue for a while when switching ROMs. I've searched many times for others having the issue but all I get are people with the widget that have no cards showing. That's not my issue but just getting the widget to begin with is.

I know that this has got to be something small and simple but I haven't been able to figure it out. If anyone has had a similar problem or is going thru the same or could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

One thing that came to my mind was what GApps I was flashing so I've tried 2 or 3 different KK packages but that hasn't appeared to have any correlation. GApps always seems to need updates anyways so I figure that must not be it.

Some Roms come with custom pre set DPIs which bork Google Now widgets...check your DPI in your build.prop and see if that's the issue.

Well, I changed the DPI from 240 to 140 and it hadn't appeared to do anything. I still didnt have the widget. My phone had a random reboot in my pocket this morning at work (I know because I have no recents) and when I went to the home screen, dimensions were different. I checked for the widget out of curiosity and it was there. Thanks. Not sure what I did but the issue must've been something with DPI.
