Google Now

I'm curious about this, as I've never given it a second thought. Have you tried loading a second browser onto your device to see if you're prompted to choose one, after using Google Now to run a search?

I do have a second browser loaded (dolphin) which I use exclusively. I have Chrome disabled. I haven't activated Google Now as of yet.

My other question is if you do activate Google Now, how do you deactivate it?

I believe that it's part of Google search. You can try deactivating it, or attempting to replace it with something like Bing. In a worst case scenario, just go into its settings and disable the features individually.

I didn't have chrome on my old phone and it worked okay. To disable, open the settings and look for an on/off slider at the top. You can turn it on an off as you like, for times when you want to save a little extra battery.

Pardon my curiosity, but how did you get Google Now without getting Chrome? Weren't both bundled in Jellybean? Were you running a custom ROM?

Even if you at running a custom ROM like rxpert said you can still uninstall chrome and get now to work just because it shows up as a separate app.

Remember though that now is labeled under Google.

Yes, that wasn't my question. Since Google gas started that Chrome was the default browser going forward, one would expect it to reside in the /system folder, asking with other included apps like Gmail and Maps. I think it's cool of Google to leave it in /data so users can delete it if they desire, but I'm still a little surprised.
