Google Phone app & Samsung Galaxy Active Watch

Hi,
I've got a Samsung S10 with a Galaxy Watch Active
I've recently switched the default dialler to Google Phone from the stock Samsung that came with the phone.
I took my first call tonight and answered no problem with my phone.
The watch was in another room and was apparently vibrating as of the call was still to be answered.
Choosing the accept or decline options on the watch did nothing except give me a message to 'check phone' and it continued to vibrate.
Have I missed something I needed to do with my watch when I switched the dialler?
Thanks

So the issue is that it keeps vibrating no matter what choice you make correct? Is the watch up to date? What about the Gear app?

Yes, that's right, the display also sticks on the incoming call display.

Watch is up to date and I use the Galaxy Wearable app
