Google place missing in cynogenmod 7

Hi, I am new to android world. Recently i bought LG optimus 2x, and the mobile is rooted and it has cynogenmod 7. The "about phone" panes says,
Android version: 2.3.7
Kernel version: 2.6.32.45-cynogenmod rmcc@giskard#1
Mod version: cynogenmod-7.1.0.1-G2x

The problem is that the mobile did not have google place initially, then from internet I downloaded the google play software and installed it; however whenever I try to run it, it asks for account detail and irrespective of whether I click yes or no, the google place crashes.
I even try with google market, but same problem is there.

I have no clue how to fix it. I shall be even happy if I could go back from cynogenmod to original gingerbread.

Any suggestion will be helpful.

Hi all, I could fix the problem.. I was trying to install google play directly from installation... now I tried to install in recovery mode "reboot from recovery", and then installed from sd card. It working fine now..
