Apps Google Places API

I wish to use the Google places api in my application.

i read that i need an aPI key from here

https://developers.google.com/places/documentation/

i get a key as described, is this adequate for android or is it intended for browser use only as i see a link underneath for getting an android key... is this what i want to click on?

when i do it askes for a SHA1 key but i cant generate this on my machine, i get an error illegal operation -list

can someone just offer clear instructions on what exactly i need to use the google places api and have acces to it in my android project?
