Google play free books

i never had to do that, but i have had my card on my Google account for a long time so maybe i missed it. perhaps they assume you would want to later purchase books after some time? i always skipped if a prompt came up anyway

I have my dads card in the account. It shows $0.00 but I'm still scared to do anything. I don't know if it will show up on the bill

I looked into this, as this is a standard policy on many eBook sites. I found a large variety of reasons. One of the most plausible is transaction software the company uses. While the book is free, you're still going through a transaction so to speak, and the system requires a credit card and won't make exceptions for $0.00 transactions. To it, the only difference between $0 and $100 is how much it deducts from the bank account. It just won't charge anything to the card (the transaction won't even show up in the billing statement, so it probably just checks that the card is real).

Same for getting free music from Google, gotta give them a credit card.

I used to have a prepaid VISA gift card that was depleted that I used for stuff like this. It expired and I haven't bothered to get another.

Amazon Appstore sends me a 'bill' for $0 for every free app 'purchase'. i recall iTunes used to do the very same thing, quite amusing really.

I found a way that works.

I wanted to download some free books from (play book) but it said i needed to enter credit details.

I downloaded an survey app called (Google Opinion Rewards) which only required a name and location.
This gave my google wallet a balance of $0.00

I could then open (play book) and BUY the free book.

No Credit card details needed.

as a bonus I did one survey that took two seconds and received $1.00 credit

Every time i tried Google Rewards (opinions) it never works right. i never get past the 'loading circle' and it just does that forever.
