Google Play Music - a battery hog?

Blodoffer

I personally love Play Music app, but in my country reviews of this app are filled with 1 star ratings. Everyone complains that this app runs all the time in the background and therefore it drains battery really fast. Is this true and "Google is evil" or are these people just misinformed on how Android handles background apps?

Unless I've been streaming music for a lengtht period of time, Play Music rarely has more than 5% of my battery usage.

It does tick over in the background, but on both of the devices I use it with, I've never had cause to say its a battery hog.

Not saying it isn't for some, it just isn't for me. :)

99% percent of those reviews complain that the app opens automatically in the background. How could these people even know that it does so, because clearly not all of the reviewers can be that geeky? Does Galaxy S phones come with a build in "task manager" or something?

Obviously if you are obsessed with manually shutting down appa instead letting the Android system do so, your battery is probably going to deplete quickly.
