Google Play music not uploading the actual MP3?

Hi all,

I bought an album the other day on Google Play Music, but one of the tracks on it was not the version I had heard before. So, I bought that track on iTunes (previewed it first to make sure it was the right one etc.) and let it download, the the Google Play Music Manager to step in, do its thing and upload to Play Music.

Now, in iTunes I have the right version. On Play Music I now have two versions of the wrong version! Does Google Play Music not upload the actual MP3 as per what iTunes has downloaded? Why would it upload the wrong version of a song?! The two versions are quite different too - one is 2m 46s and the other is about 4m 30s long.

What is going on?!

Google Play Music does not upload the actual version you have. It has its library of songs and if it thinks it has the song you have it will just use its version. This has been verified several months ago. People had uncensored versions of a song, but when they synced with Google Play Music, they heard a censored version.

This seems like a ridiculous way of doing it. If it says it scans and uploads/matches your iTunes library then it should. Not do a "best guess" job in trying to match what it thinks you have.

On my track in question there are actually 2 whole versions of the album - basically fast version and a slow version. The track listings are the same, the the album name and cover are the same, the only differential between the 2 versions is price (on iTunes anyway - the "fast" version doesn't seem to be available on Google). If I'd bought the more expensive fast version and Google decided to only match it in my library as the slower version I'd be thoroughly pissed off.

Trying to understand what's going on here. You buy an album from iTunes it has basically rude or explicit lyrics, but what you're getting on Google Play is a clean non-explicit "radio edit" version?

In answer to that question, I have no idea if the version I am buying is explicit as its in Spanish and I don't speak it. But the actual tunes are different - slower, faster, different instruments etc. The "fast" version is

This is for the one song ONLY. Do not delete your library, thats just dumb.

Backup all versions of your song.

Shut down Google music and Itunes.

Temporarily delete all versions of the song from your computer, Google music, android devices.

Launch the Google Music sync on your computer. Once complete (give it a few minutes even tho it seems its not doing anything) shut it down.

Restore the track you want, download again via Itunes.

Launch Google Music sync again.

See what happens.
