Google Play Store for a new user

Alright, so this is my first time owning a smartphone and I went with the Nexus 4. From all the reviews I read and its price point, it felt like the right phone for me considering I am under contract and an iPhone would have been like 700 bucks. Anyway, I am a little overwhelmed by the format of the Google Play store. It, in my opinion, is not as user friendly as the iTunes store. For some reason, I just find it a lot harder to navigate.

I'm also surprised to find that they don't even have a ringtone section. If it wasn't for the Zedge App that I found, I would have been kind of let down. It isn't easy to find wallpapers or anything of that nature. I'm not saying I hate the phone by any means. In fact, I love it. But again, I was expecting more when I heard that their App store was giving the iTunes store competition. Is there anything I can do to make this transition easier? Any tips or tricks?
I'd greatly appreciate them.

You can put about anything on the device you want. Put ringtones in /sdcard/media/ringtones (/sdcard is hte default 'home' folder)

Additionally, any image you can put on it can be used as a wallpaper. I like the Maxellus wallpapers, though, like Planets and Galaxies 3D

Not sure why you say that this is your first smartphone, the iphone is technically a "smartphone". Next, regarding the Google Play Store, it is just as easy to navigate and install apps as in the Apple AppStore, here's how I do it:

1) You can search by apps if you know the exact name of the app. When you search for any particular apps, if the app isn't compatible with your phone, you won't be able to install it, even if you type the name correctly. Also, on the right side of the screen, you will get a notification whether or not the app is compatible even before you attempt to install it.

2) Apps are listed by Categories, so if you know what type of app you are looking for, you can list them based on this filter. They are also listed by Top Free/Top Popular/Top Paid, etc.

3) One of the best features about the Google Play store to me, and that wins hands down from anything that the Apple AppStore does, is you can actually remotely/wirelessly install apps to your android device(s) from the Google Play website.

4) Regarding ringtones, the reason the Google Play store doesn't have a ringtone section is because ringtones on android devices work a little different than on IOS(Apple). You can actually use any music file(mp3) as a ringtone by simply copying the file to your device's internal or external(sd card) storage. And actually some of the android music apps have the option of saving music files that you are currently listening to, as a ringtone onto your phone.

Hope this helps.

It is my first smartphone because I've never owned an iPhone. I have however played with my mother's iPhone and I own a crapload of iPod Touch devices.

Droidiris app is a another good app for finding wallpapers. Its basicly just an image search engine.
As people have said, you can use any image, mp3 as a wallpaper, ringtone, notification.
Maybe theres less hand-holding on android than on iphone (i honestly dont know) but theres definately more freedom :)

There isn't any Ringtone and Wallpaper section because as said before, you can use ANY music or picture as your wallpaper. Heck you can get the 10hr NyanCat mp3 from YouTube and use that as your ringtone if you want.

Apple AppStore is more of, "Here you go, ringtones for you." Android Play Storeis more, "oh you got songs on your PC that aren't available as ringtones, and that one is your current favorite? Want to use it as your ringtone? Sure you can!"

Es File Explorer is good for setting ringtones. Not its main purpose but it works well.

Just find the mp3 on your sdcard long press it and pick set as ringtone. no moving anything needed.

you can do different notification songs(When you get a text, or email or something) and ringtones too.

I honestly ignore people quite a lot just to hear my song :D
