Help Google Play store not working

Hi all :)

My device as shown in the sig is a Gionee S7 phone with Android 5.0. The cpu model is AArch64 Processor rev 2. I am very ignorant about phones and I didnt know the Google Playstore was needed when I bought the phone. It came with the app but it crashes for some reason ie when I open the app it briefly shows a white screen then vanishes. Its still in the recent apps list but when I press it again from there the same thing happens. These are what I have already tried:

Tried clearing the data for the app from Settings > Apps.

Tried downloading and installing a new version from apkmirror.

Also the Downloads service/app is running so that cant be the reason. Any idea how to make the playstore run?

I might have asked the same question in some other forums too.

I dont know if my phone is a Chinese version or not. These are the other details shown in the about phone section:

Kernel Version: 3.10.61+

Build number:
[SW VERSION]
S7_0301_V5664
[HW VERSION]
S7_Main board_P3

That could be a version intended for sale in China. Those don't have Google Play installed on them. Where did it come from, where did you buy it? Just sideloading the Play Store app won't work, and it will immediately crash, as you're describing.

I bought it from a (non online) shop.
OK, I think you need to take it up with them, as it does sound like you got a PRC version phone there, given what's apparently happening with Google Play and the info you posted. An alternative is to look into flashing a suitable international firmware, if that's even possible on this particular device. I have no ideas on that, apart from looking at the Gionee community support fora.

OK I think I'll first take it to the shop and see what they say. If that doesent work I'll look into the other alternative you are suggesting. Thanks for the help.
