Help "Google Search" version (check/update for A.W. connect problem)

Android Expert
I am trying to get my new 2014 Moto 360 watch working reliably.
It seems to lose connection within an hour repeatedly.

I've removed all modifications from my phone (firewall off, adaway off, all xposed modules uninstalled).

I reset the watch, clear cache/data on A.W. app from phone, uninstall A.W. app from the phone, clear phone cache in recovery and reboot, reinstall A.W. app on phone, re-pair devices...works fine for awhile but within 1 hour again I will have connection problems ("no-cloud" symbol on watch and "trying to connect" in the A.W. app on the phone). I can't recover without repeating a similar process (at a minimum removing/reinstalling A.W. app)

So I'm working through the Google Help and saw this
Also, these Google apps need to be up-to-date:
  • Google Play Services app version 7.3.28 or above
  • Google Search app version 4.0 or above [emphasis added]
  • Android Wear app version 1.1.0 or above
I have no problem with the first one (my gp services is 8.1.1.5) and third one (a.w. is 1.3. something), but the second one is a problem. I wasn't sure exactly where "google search app" lives, but I found one tiny app (16k) with that name in my settings / app-manager. The only problem is it says version 1.0 (screenshot attached). Hmm, that's weird. I did reset my phone within the last week (to rooted deodexed stock I337UCUGOC4 4.0.1 on my AT&T GS4). So I guess that's plausible that there are some updates the playstore needs to install (I've don't let it update automatically). I went through Google Play, there is no such app "google search" that I can locate by searching, and no such app showing that it is waiting for an update. For the heck of it, I went ahead and turned on "update all" and letting all the cr*pwear update itself at the moment.

I do have two apps frozen with TiBu to discourage oem/carrier auto-updates which would probably boot-loop my phone:
  • Samsung Free Over The Air updater - LocalFOTA 2.0
  • AT&T software update - wssyncmldm.apk
I don't think google updates would come through these channels and I'm not going to re-enable these unless it becomes obvious I am really out of date compared to the rest of the world.

My questions:
1 -Do you think I am looking the correct place to determine "google search app" version?
2 - What version does it say in that location (settings / apps / google search) on your phone?
3 - How the heck do I update it?

After updating the watch software, things seem to be going better. Connection still gets lost from time to time but seems to reconnect itself.

Google search app is still 1.0. Don't think it's a problem but still curious if others are seeing the same version 1.0 for "Google Search app" within settings / manage apps.
