Google sign-in error

Hello,

In the last few days I have been getting a triangle warning icon on my notifications bar. When I click on it it says that I have entered the wrong password or that my account has changed (neither of which is true). If I enter my password then it says 'Authenticating' for a short time and just comes back to the pop-up.

I know the password is OK because I have checked I can login to Gmail with it on the web. The phone is still working OK, I am getting my emails and everything appears to be synching, but this is very annoying.

I've done some searching and have seen plenty of people have this problem, but I have yet to see any solutions apart from factory reset - which I could do without.

Has anyone got any thoughts on what I could do about this?

I've been getting the exact same message since yesterday evening (GMT).

I thought it may have had something to do with my switch from googlemail to gmail. However, after doing a factory reset on the phone and changing my profile to the gmail account on my phone I still have the same errors cropping up. Strange thing is that I am getting updates from my gmail account on the phone, and all other google services appear to be sync'ing and logging in ok.

If we could trace the calling application, it might help. This may have been caused by a recent update from Google Play.

BTW, I am using an HTC Desire A8181 running Android 2.2.2 (Froyo, unrooted)

At least its not just me! I wondered if it was related to Google Play, it seemed to happen after it did some updating of other apps. I can go to Play from the apps menu, though, and see my installed apps which would suggest it can authenticate OK..

I've got a Desire HD running Gingerbread 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0 (although I use LauncherPro).

I have also been getting this for the past couple of days. Everything seems to be working fine, but the error message is disturbing.
 
Both my wife and I have gotten the errors on our droids the last 2 days - she has an HTC incredible 3g and I have a Droid Razr Maxx 4g.

Anyone know if it's not just droids? I guess a non-droid page would answer that....
 
I'm also glad to find out I am not alone. HTC EVO. Phone is working fine but the error message is annoying. Will stay tuned and hope to learn how to remedy.
 
I got this the other day and immediately suspected some kind of phishing attack.

Although the alert claimed "You have entered the wrong password or your account has changed", all google related services seem to be still working and I know I haven't changed my account.

The fact that other people have entered their password and it made no difference only makes me more suspicious.

I've been ignoring this message ever since it appeared.

If you've entered your password in the pop-up it might be worth changing it just to be on the safe side.
 
Issue seems to have been corrected overnight, I'm not getting the sign in error. However, I was required to choose an account when logging into Google+ and then complete a few set-up pages. I'm guessing this was indeed a Google+ app problem.

Hope this is a final fix and I won't get anymore error message.
 
If you want to fix that you have to go on your PC in google Chrome. There is a key on top right. If you have the sigh in error you should see that on the key there is also a ! sign. Fix that be clicking on the key and entering your username in password and you will fix the problem
 
I get the error on a Galaxy S2. It appeared most recently yesterday. It was still there this morning. I am currently on 3G and it is gone for now. I have not attempted any remediation. I post when it returns.
 
If you enable Google 2nd verification, use application specific password instead of the real password.
 
Following this up, I haven't seen this problem for a couple of days now, so something seems to have sorted itself out. I did get an error when updating the g+ app about an invalid package file (or something similar), but that seems to have sorted itself out as well.

Scarily, until someone above mentioned phishing attack I hadn't given a second thought to the fact that I had just entered my Google password into a prompt on my phone when it wasn't clear where the prompt came from. Oops. Lesson learned, hopefully..

I just had this happen to me. Is your account on the computer constantly asking you for a verification code? If it is you need to turn off the 2-step verification and you will be able to add your account back to your phone. This just worked for me.

My Google account on the PC has been fine, no ill effects noted. Thanks for the input, though.
