Google Talk at Work

So I just got my Nexus 4 a few days ago and noticed when I'm on Wi-Fi at work, it doesn't allow me to use Google Talk (it just won't sign in). I never used Wi-Fi before on my Rezound because the Verizon network was stronger at my desk. Anyone know a way around this?

Google talk works fine on wifi usually. Is there any chance your work would block certain apps? Are you able to use wifi to do other tasks on your phone?

Yes, I can use the Wifi for other things, but I believe they're blocking ports for things like that. Applications like Spotify, Facebook, and so forth don't work either. I was curious if there was a way around this?
