Android Question

Does google talk show people onllne (green) when they are not on their phone? My boyfriend and my very good girlfriend are always on their phone at the same time. Is this a coincidence? Server issue? Or should I be concerned?

It depends on how they have their accounts set up. Under the settings for the mobile app there are a couple of relevant options. One is "mobile indicator" which displays a little android icon next to their name rather than a dot. Green is obviously "online" or active. Orange is "away" or standby. The second option is "Away when screen off". This automatically changes their status light to orange if the screen is off. I know most of the day my wife's account shows an orange android which is accurate since she's not on her cell much during the day.

If someone does not select the option to show away when screen off, they will pretty much be shown as online "green" any time their phone is powered on (ie always). Since most people probably automatically sign into Gtalk when their phone boots up, Gtalk considers them 'online'. You should check your boyfriend's and other friend's Talk settings and see...

Also, if their accounts show a dot instead of the android it is possible they are logged into Gmail on a PC and thus appear online even if they are not on their phones.
