Google Traffic Widget

yep, your quite right, i think i understand it a bit better now. my problem at the minute is.....ive got it as a widget on the homescreen, but its always greyed out. it doesnt open maps when i click it.

its closed with a few z's on it to show its asleep, but when i click it it stays grey but this time with the 'sync' rotating arrows. but doesnt light up and open maps.

any ideas? am i doing something wrong? or is it a problem with redux rom maybe? it wouldnt be my first :-/

cheers

i had the same issue. the address i was using had an apartment number (saved from previous entries). as soon as i created a new widget with the same address but without the apartment/unit, it worked like a charm.

There is something strange about the expected travel time displayed in the Traffic Widget.
I made a widget for the town I work at the moment, and the widget shows 33m, I interpret this as a travel time of 33 minutes.
Then I tap on it, and Google Maps opens. When I ask a route in Google maps to the same town, it gives me a travel time of 47 minutes! And that is the actual time I need every day to travel there.
Why then does the travel widget say 33m ?

This app is constantly runnong in the background even though i have not used the maps app or traffic widget!!!

Anyone know how to kill it from running services for good?

I'm pretty sure that is 33 Miles not 33 minutes. I've not yet found a way to get this to show in KM, but I've only just seen this thread so not had too much time to poke around.

I've just noticed a slight issue with the Traffic app (on my HTC Desire S).

I placed it on one of my 'desktop' pages last night, but after playing with it for a bit, I decided it wasn't really useful enough for me, so I deleted it (that is, the shortcut to it).

Now today, when I looked at my 'running services' I saw there was a second instance of 'Maps' running, which I thought was strange. Upon closer inspection, I found that one was the usual instance of 'Maps', but the other had been started up by the 'Traffic' app. I tried to stop it using the usual methods but it keeps on re-starting straight away, despite the fact that I'm not using the 'Traffic' widget/app anymore.

It's not using an awful lot of memory - around 6mb - but every little helps, as they say (or hinders, as in this case). By implication, if I tried to place a widget for it on my 'desktop' again, it could start a third simultaneous instance of 'Maps' and eat up even more memory, which would be a slightly worrying development.

So... does anyone know how to stop this separate 'Traffic'-started instance of 'Maps'? (I don't have any dedicated app killer installed at the moment, btw.)

Many thanks in advance.

(A UK-based newbie here, btw.)

Hi
The way to stop it from running is to go into Running Services and the Clear Data & Cache from Google Maps, this should stop it.

If it does come back the next thing to do is to uninstall Google Maps updates and then reinstall, but dont touch the traffic widget again!!

Hope this helps.

Pete ;)

The number is definitely meant to be travel time. I put one for my commute to work and it says 6m, which is about right for my commute. It's definately not 6 miles, since I only work in the next town over, and I can walk to work in about 45 min if needed.

this widget would be nice if it was accurate. Its strange how it gives a different journey time than googlemaps which its meant to be linked too.

It looks to be using the traffic info from googlemaps. I've seen the icon change from green to orange to red at rush hour. If the traffics light (green icon) it underestimates the travel time too much.

i hope they fix it , its a nice idea.

Has anyone figured out why the travel time is so screwed up or how to fix it?
Besides that, what a great tool. I.don't understand why google doesn't advertise more if this stuff. Common people (non techy apple users) would flock to a device with features like this.
Too many google+ commercials.

I noticed the Traffic widget process among all of my other running processes as well. There does not seem to be a way to kill it although it does not seem to be using any CPU cycles either.

I tried adding the Traffic widget to my home screen once a couple of months ago to test it out. After that I could never get the above mentioned process to go away even after deleting the Traffic widget from my home screen and clearing the cache and data for Google Maps.

Haha I didnt know it did this either! Now Google needs to recommend different directions BEFORE you get in the traffic jam. Avoid the "Thanks...I already know im in traffic" effect, lol.

I'm having the same problem on the HTC EVO V 4G. I have tried clearing cache and data. I have also tried to uninstall updates, but nothing seems to work.

I can't get the widget to do anything. I give it a name and destination, pop it on a screen and .. nothing. Just sits there, showing and doing nada, even when tapped.

Does you need to turn Location Services on?

I'm running Maps 6.14.3 on 4.2.2

BTW, on the properties for Maps, it has something about it being 'run on startup' which may explain why people are finding it in their list of running processes all the time ..

Settings .. Apps .. Maps

Toward the bottom of the page (you'll need to scroll down) there's a list of priviledges that are not editable, so no, it appears it can't be changed.
