Google Translate

Hi
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy s2. I don't know much about android phones but have dowloaded Google Translate and it works really well.

If I took my phone abroad (from Britain to France and Spain say), would it work correctly or do I have to download something else to make it work without a 3g connection. Does the connection cost to use abroad?

Is there a better alternative?

Hi there, welcome to the forums :)

Your phone will work fine as a phone without a 3G connection, but you wouldn't be able to access the internet/sync etc. To do that, you'd need a WiFi connection. There's nothing stopping you from using 3G abroad, it would just cost a fortune so it's recommended you turn it off. If the handset is unlocked, you could try it with another networks SIM in? We do that when we go to Poland, we have a cheap, unlocked phone which we stick a Polish SIM in to use to save on excessive charges. Is that an option?

Incidentally, the SGS2 forum is here: Samsung Galaxy S2 - Android Forums but feel free to use the rest of the forum at your leisure.

Welcome to Android Forums!

Took my phone with me from London to Paris and then ended up in the Netherlands. Depending on your carrier it may be cheapest to get an international plan and use it for calls sparingly (don't forget SMS plans, they too can be costly) and turn 3G off. I hooked up to wifi to check mail and get maps, but the actual charges for data after two weeks was exactly $0.00.

Getting a pay as you go sim in France is a pita, don't know about Spain.
