Google Voice calling question

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 with the google voice app and US google voice number. I will be in Mexico for a little while and I'm wondering about placing calls. If I use my GV number to call US based phone numbers are those calls free even though I will be placing them from Mexico? Also, will someone in the US be able to call my GV number just as if they will making a regular non-international call since I have a US based GV number?

Sorry if that sounds confusing, just never used my GV number to place or receive out of the country. Thanks

GV calls in and out from your cell phone still cost you money because you are using the cell network. You should be able to make and get calls in Mexico, but depending on your plan it could be expensive.

GrooVe IP works perfectly

So, to clarify, when I use Google Voice to make a call, I'm still using my AT&T minutes, even though I'm on Wifi. But if I call with GrooveIP on Wifi, I'm not using minutes, right? Is this just for domestic calls in the States? When I call my brother in Canada (over Wifi), is there any advantage in using GrooveIP over GV?

I just installed the Lite version of GrooveIP, so it only works over Wifi. Are there any other limitations?

You aren't using Wifi in any way when you make a standard Google Voice call. Google Voice actually dials some other access number first to complete the call.

If you call with GrooveIP, you use your data (wifi or mobile network) and no carrier minutes are used.

Got it, thanks. I read a user review that claimed phone calls are limited to 15 minutes max with GrooveIP Lite. Any truth to this?
