Google Voice Free Texting?

What am I missing here.

I've had a google voice number for a couple of years.

I did the following test on my Razr maxx:

Opened up GV
Sent a text message from that app
Wife responded


A couple of days later I log into Verizons web site and see that I was charged for both messages.

What settings am I missing?

Go to settings on the GV site and make sure that "receive text messages on this phone" is NOT selected. You should only get texts through the GV app now and they should no longer count as carrier texts.

Settings should have the following fields under the phone tab online:

Forwards calls to:

Mobile (Verizon)
(xxx) xxx-xxxx - Mobile
Receive text messages on this phone
Notify me of new voicemails via text
