Google Voice Hack ? (Unlimited F&F Calling/Messaging) for Jelly Bean 4.2?

Hello All,

Tomorrow I'm scheduled to receive my Galaxy Note 2 from Verizon (finally) after waiting over a month with the pre-order. Currently I use a BlackBerry and I have Google Voice installed (an old version) which makes it so I can make calls using the SAME OUTGOING NUMBER each time instead of dynamic outbound numbers. What this allows me to do is add that outgoing number into my Friends & Family package and thus makes all of my calls not count for minutes! Brilliant, right?

Well I'm new to the Android scene and I downloaded the equivalent .apk (com.google.android.apps.googlevoice-1.apk) which should be the same as my BlackBerry Version (0.1.3) but for Android.

1. Will this work on Jelly Bean 4.2 ?

2. If not, what can I do to get this working on my new phone in the same way it did on my BlackBerry?

Don't download apks. You usually don't know what other people who uploaded it did to it. They may be able to track your messages and stuff. Download only from the Play Store direct to your device. And yes AFAIK you can do that on Google Voice.

Well the question is what do I need to download so I can? To my understanding, the new Google Voice versions all use dynamic outbound numbers which change the "dial-out" number every time a call is made instead of having just one "dial-out" number. If I have just one, I can plug that number in my friends and family package and then have unlimited free calling.

I know there are some apps out there like GrooVe IP, SipDroid, TalkaTone, and GrooVe IP lite but I don't know which one I can use or if there is another way to get this to work okay.
 
I use Google Voice Callback, it used to be on Play but is now on Amazon. There are similar callback apps out there but I've not tried them. What it does (and quite well) is intercept your outgoing call, register it w/GV, call you back and auto answers/connect the call. You only have to have your GV number on FF and make a GV contact so it shows GV calling. You can set what numbers to use (like all non-Verizon mobile etc.). There is a slight delay as it has to do a few things before you actually connect but it will allow free calls.
It's not exactly what you are asking for but it does do what you are looking to do.
 
Clementine_3, currently when I call I dial the number (or go to my contacts) and I select "Call Using Google Voice" when I want to. I like to do that because some people (like my family) all have my original number (predating the smartphone era) and I still like to call them with that number.

Does Google Voice Callback give you the option prior to making a call? If not, I'm curious if the other apps like Groove IP do.
 
There is an 'always ask' option, yes. I have added a shortcut to my homescreen so I can easily turn it off and on too. But then your call is not free since you are bypassing it, it's just a regular call now.
Also, the outgoing number for GV (not through this, just regular GV) does change, but not as often as you'd think. I've added numbers to FF and they've stayed true. GV assigns a number to a number...so if you call your mom w/GV it will (mostly/should) use that same outgoing number. If you call your sister it will assign a different number. You have to add each of those to FF but they are (again, mostly) static.
 
Yikes, my F&F is already at Max and I hope there is an alternative to what you're describing where I'd have to list several numbers.

Has anyone tried the old Google Voice app from the early Gingerbread era on Jelly Bean yet? What about people's experiences with Groove IP or TalkaTone?
 
I PM'd the developer of GrooVe IP to get his thoughts on the matter. I noticed that there is another app that apparently goes with GrooVe IP called GrooVe Forwarder. I'm hoping to get my head wrapped around this by the end of tomorrow, for on 11/29, the phone arrives!
