*Google Voice SMS popup?*

Peace All,

Does anyone know if there is a SMS popup app that supports GV? Currently I'm using ChompSMS and it only supports Android systems SMS. Would like to have a txt messaging app that has pop-up support for GV

GV is technically also "Android SMS". I think you mean SMS via your carrier.

I'm not aware of any such app off the top of my head. If the caveats don't concern you then you can use SMS forwarding with GV and use Chomp for GV SMS. The caveats being:

- Inbound and outbound messages are billable.
- You can't directly message contacts or else messages will come from your carrier number. For messages to come from your GV number you have to reply to contacts via the 406 area code numbers used for SMS forwarding.
 
there's got to be a way to do this with Tasker-- I'll research a bit, unless anyone else has any ideas.
 
Just wanting to keep this thread alive because I still need a solution. Despite my settings, I can't get Google Voice to give me ANY notifications when I receive a new SMS text message. This is super annoying and makes it not workable. I would like push notifications that make noise, flash lights, vibrate, etc so I know when I have a new incoming text message. The whole point of texting rather than using email is the instant notifications!

Also I just bought Groove IP and it works wonderfully for calls. Now I just need the texting to work over wifi and I will be golden. Comments and suggestions greatly appreciated!

In the GV app you have notifications set and still don't get them? GV>menu>more>settings>sync/notification>select what you want and choose a sound. It should work...?
 
GV has notifications as stated above that work fine.

BUT I have not found a SMS pop up yet that will work with Google Voice

As mentioned above, notifications should work. BUT I've noticed on several occasions that, upon installing Google Voice, text to phone is turned OFF on the Google Voice side. Go to the Google.com/voice website, click on the settings gear (on the right), and make sure "receive text messages on this phone" is checked. As well as the settings mentioned above.

Neither have I. At this point, when I search for it, I basically find my own forum posts from a dozen forums, asking the same question ;) .. still seems totally crazy to me..
 
As i mentioned way above, the chomp developer told me it was on the to do list, but still nothing.

I'm amazed no one has made a 3rd party google voice app.

I am as well. As I pointed out in my own thread about this problem here, there is an iPhone mod that does this beautifully called SMS GV Extension. However, it also could be improved.

Since both Chomp and Handcent integrate with the native messaging app, what we are looking for is a mod, not an additional app feature. Ideally, this mod would also copy messages sent via gvoice in a browser and update the native messaging thread as well (so that the threads are not incomplete). Finally, in the dream scenario, it would parse voice and SMS messages so that VM notifications could also be recorded in the native phone VM system.

The 'sending' part of this mod is already done, given that GV messaging integration exists. The receiving part can't be too much more difficult. If I could write mods, this would be my first one.
 
Hey guys.. just wanna spread the word -- since I use Google Voice for all of my SMS, this issue has been a pain for me.

there's finally an app on the market that supports Google Voice Notification popups, actually using the Google Voice App.

I'm not the developer and have no affill with the company, but been waiting for this forever. I posted here-- totally worth checking out!

This is very welcome news. Heading to xda to read the thread there.

As you can see, I've been looking for something better for a very long time as well.
