Google Voice SMS Problem...

I recently setup Google Voice on my phone to take advantage of free SMS messages. The problem I've run into is that stock GV SMS app.. seems to lag a lot when I'm in an active back & forth with someone. I'll be typing a message and the thing will "freeze" for about 3 to 5 seconds each time a new incoming message arrives. Which... makes it pretty annoying to use.

I've also noticed, not quite as often, that I'll be typing letters and nothing will appear as typed... if I hit send, it will send what I typed, but I can't see the letters as they are selected (I'm using Swiftkey X, so this may be a keyboard issue).

I do not have GV as my only phone number. I still have my Verizon number... and can send SMS through Verizon's stock messaging App. I do want to keep the two separate.

I downloaded GOSMS but that only seemed to work with my Verizon number for messages.. and GV was kept in its own application.

So... is there a way to download an SMS app and get it to work with just GV?

Any ideas on other fixes for the poor performance of the stock GV messaging application?

Could the keyboard I'm using be contributing to the lag/problems?

I used to have the same problem. It's caused by pushing 'Home' instead of 'Back' to close the app. For some reason, GVoice will keep making copies of itself in memory if you hit home (the whole multi-tasking thing gone wrong, I think). But if you push your back button, it'll remove the extra copies from memory.

Hrm... that's interesting. I'll try to get into the habit of using Back instead of Home. Sort of annoying though, means two key presses instead of one to get back to the main screen.

Thanks!

something strange on my att phone even though I am using google voice I am still being charged for messages by the carrier. I think it may be a setting on the google voice website.
