Help Google voice to text does not allow voice input

When using Google Maps (& anything using the keyboard input), I tap on the microphone icon so I can input text via speech. But now, when I do that, I get the white window with the green button in the middle & "Google" at the bottom, but I don't get the beep that tells me to start talking. If I talk, it does not do anything.

As far as I know, I didn't change anything, but who knows if that's really true. I tried a power down/restart about 2 times but that didn't help. Any one know how to fix this? Thanks so much.

My voice to text was not working (I tapped the mic icon on the keyboard, but it would not listen to my voice), but I finally solved the problem. In case others have this issue, here's what I did. I thought it's probably not an app problem, as the issue showed in many apps. It also probably was not a keyboard problem, as I had the issue on 2 keyboard apps.

I noticed sometimes I'd get a popup window that said something like, "Google App has stopped". I don't even use Google App, so why is that showing? Maybe the keyboard uses Google App.

So I did: settings; apps; application manager; Google App; force stop. That didn't seem to do anything, as the button was still active (not grayed out). So from there, then I did: storage; clear cache and manage storage; clear all data. That worked! You don't realize how much you "need" voice input until you lose it. I felt I was back in the Stone Age. But now it works, yea!
