Google voice

I'm confused. I have google voice installed on my phone but it does not give me the option to make calls. The only thing that happens when you open up the application is I see a listing of my voice mails. Is it possible to make calls from your phone using the google voice app

Well, the default screen does show all of your voicemails/text messages. Press menu>More>Settings>Making calls. Choose which option you want (I prefer "ask everytime I make a call" since it acts as a call confirm), and you will be able to use the phone application or contacts to make calls with GV.
You are able to make calls from inside the app if someone has left a voicemail or a text by long pressing on their icon.

Clearly I am doing something wrong because I don't even have those as options. The only options I have relate to international calls

Just to clarify, your Google Voice number is different than your cell phone number, right?

I just looked and it's listing my cell number. How do I get a GV number?

When you signed up with GV, you must have chosen the option to use your cell phone as your GV number. To pick your own GV number (different than your cell phone number), go to GV's website on your computer --> Voice Settings and there is a link to change / port your cell phone number. I believe there is a $10 charge to do so.

Just to clarify, if you do pick a new phone number, you will still be charged voice minutes on your cell phone. GV isn't VOIP. There is lots of confusion over that, so just wanted to make sure you knew about it.
