For some reason texting via the google voice app is very sluggish as far as typing on the keyboard is concerned. I am using the 2.1 leak on my Eris and I was wondering if this was a common problem or just something on my end. I was also wondering if there was an 3rd party app that could be used with google voice for texting that works better than the app that google makes.

I use the Swype program for texting. Once you're used to it, texting is extremely fast with little to no lag. It's now my default keyboard. Totally free and totally worth the download.

EDIT: Apparently the Swype beta release for Android is closed, but you can register on their website for notification when they open it back up for download.
