Grrr. Got the wallet setup, got the prepaid $10. Problem? Each merchant I went to (identified via Google wallet Site, and each bearing that NFC logo) looked at me like I had three heads when I asked if they took Google Wallet payments. At one place, the scan took, but did not complete.

I have heard of that happening to friends plenty of times. The only place they consistently have it work is McDonalds....

Really dependent on the vendor, the paypass app helps with locating places but even that doesn't help if the vendor doesn't have the terminal setup correctly.

The McD closest to me, theirs doesn't work but another one across town, it works perfectly. If its reading your NFC it usually makes a chime/sound.. other places I've had success (I also live in PA), Wendy's , Sunoco, Rite Aid, CVS, Sheetz

You don't need wifi to make a payment. But, I believe it doesn't update your balance until you reestablish a connection.

No, it is like walking using your physical credit card and not keeping any receipts.

So in this case the nfc chip is more like a glorified magnetic strip.

Not that any of this is relevant to me, it'll be years before this would get properly implemented here.
In fact Google wallet is completely locked on my nexus, just as books, movies and.. Magazines I think?

I was able to use my $10 Google Wallet credit at McD's today. My personal feeling is that it is less convenient than simply swiping my debit card so I doubt I will use it to make any further purchases.
