Just to be clear, I can download this link directly to my phone as long as I check the box to allow downloads from places other than the market.

Is this correct?

I downloaded directly to my Droid, used Astro, browsed to file, selected Edit, Rename, changed extension to .apk and installed it via APKInstaller in the market. Worked flawlessly. It doesn't have to be done with a computer.

Ugh, I hate having to make a million message board accounts all over the internet that I'll never use again just to download one file.

XDA is a fantastic board. Almost everything we are able to do with Android is thanks to people on that board.

No.

But I'd leave it there - if you ever do a reset or change Droids you'll need it to re-install.

XDA is a fantastic board. Almost everything we are able to do with Android is thanks to people on that board.

I know the name and I don't doubt anything you said, but it also doesn't change the fact that I'd still likely never post there and my account would just clog up their database needlessly. I made no criticism of the site's content or users.

GPS for location is working for me. You may want to try to reinstall.

I'm using just Weather, and it works just fine. Fits perfectly too. Not sure what your problem is.

All links were removed as the Developer {Google} has not officially released it so this may be classed as pirated or Illegal software which AndroidForums does not allow to solicit or distribute.

sorry for the duplicate post
so i installed android 2.1 on my droid... and it's sick! still a little unstable but almost there. i went back to 2.0.1 until 2.1 becomes a little more reliable... anyway....

on 2.1 there is an amazing weather/news widget/app... and here it is as a standalone apk. works perfectly on my 2.0.1

obviously just make sure you allow installs from unknown sources in your app settings.
