I've read that part of what Google is trying to accomplish with the N7 is to create their own consumer ecosystem like Amazon has done with the Kindle Fire and Amazon Prime. I'm not sure that's going to work.
With the KF you get Amazon Prime (not sure if access comes with the KF or you have to purchase it separately) and that's huge. As a Prime member (without a KF), their video selection may be less than Netflix but it's not too bad and is streamable. Google will have to come up with something like Prime if they are going to compete. A $25 credit in Play is not the same thing.
I've never bought/rented a movie from Google, nor bought a book or magazine. Amazon is the king at this point and for books, there are enough tools available that I can load purchases on any device I choose. Not sure if that's even possible with Google, so I never tried. Note I don't give these things away, just prefer being able to read on my Nook if I feel like it (the Nook Simple Touch is the best ereader at this time, in my opinion).
They must have thought of this. Will they offer a similar thing as Amazon Prime or do they expect people to rent/purchase videos one at a time?
