Help Got a few questions...

Maxxcyber

Newbie
I recently purchased my first android smart phone. I know NOTHING about it.
The reason I purchased one is because I found out one can play video games for free. Upon downloading a few titles I noticed that some apps can obtain personal information found on the phone.
My questions are as follows:

1. If an android app gets my personal info, is this a security risk? can really bad stuff happen if they get my info? If so, What?

2. Is there any way to prevent the apps in question from obtaining said info? If so How? (Please note I have a old version of android, so I do NOT have access to "App Opps") I do have UU app purifier, I'm a bit concerned over the permissions however.

3. Finnally what do the people in charge do with this info? Is it anything bad?

Thank you in advance.

Honest developers may data mine you to learn your preferences and target your interests for better games.

Dishonest ones use games as bait to gather your information for sale to spam lists and criminal organizations.

Don't laugh, I'm not exaggerating, I've banned a developer from here for bragging about - and his argument was he's not a criminal, the guys he sold to were. And he had no intention of stopping.

There are many fine games you can play for free from the Play Store. Apocalypse Cow cracks me up. And I've gotten free copies of some of the Lego Star Wars games along with Sonic the Hedgehog for free on limited time giveaways (I completely suck at them but that's another story).

If you've been lured into the "whoopie, I can get paid games for free by downloading over at..." or "here's teh hacxoxr tool to make games free" then you're acting like an idiot and need to stop.

Many if not most of those sites lure people in for the free candy - you leave with modified versions of the apps designed to support criminal identity theft, malware, and everything else wrong you can name. Or the payload will be at the websites doing it, just click their other offers - and find out just how much data you can get from a mobile cookie or discover the joys of a browser hijack that gets you into downloads you don't want.

I get laughed at a lot for saying that the sky is falling.

I also get a lot of people returning telling me that they wished they'd listened to me when I warned them the first time - and can I please help fix their phones.

Free games from the Play Store and the Amazon.com App of the Day - absolutely fantastic!

Downloading paid games for free from piracy sites?

Hope that helps! :)

Answer #2? What part of...
"If you've been lured into the "whoopie, I can get paid games for free by downloading over at..." or "here's teh hacxoxr tool to make games free" then you're acting like an idiot and need to stop."
...do you not understand?

If anyone can answer question 2? that would be GREAT!
Plz forgive me EarlyMon as I'm about to play "devil's advocate"..

*2* ..turn on airplane mode. BUT that's a double edged sword as most games these days require a data connection for the most simplest tasks and enabling airplane mode will only frustrate you more.
EarlyMon isn't trying to be mean, he's being REAL! I swear on my life that I have brought down a whole PC system (blue death) that wasn't even mine and broken HUGE GAMES (1.5+GB) with illegal/black downloads and game Hackers. Result? PC - needed complete wipe & fresh OS install. Android - game needed wiped & fresh install (ate up my data QUICK!). Wasn't worth it at all, hasn't happened since I learned. I even pay for my music now too, just not as much as iCrap ppl do..
Seriously bro, Don't do it.

Everyone understands what you're asking for.

There's a reason that UU Purifier is no longer at the Play Store.

You didn't ask about that but it does make it somewhat clear how you're getting apps.

So correct me if I'm wrong but your real question seems to be, how can you engage in app piracy safely?

That's why you're not seeing more responses.

Game piracy is pure stupidity. We all have to make a living. If enough steal games, people who produce them will have a hard time making money. No money, no games.
